Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Mercedes’ contender in the small car market, the A-Class has been a resounding success in the UK since its introduction in 1998 and although it is only 3.57m in length, the original A-Class is every inch a Mercedes - Benz.

I
n 2001, a long wheelbase version was introduced bringing limousine-like levels of legroom for rear passengers, and up to 1,865 litres of load space.

For families who want to own a ‘Merc’ but need a small car that is going to be family friendly and not break the bank, the A-Class is a good option. At £13,555 for the A140 Classic, going up to £17,455 for the top of the range A170 Avantgarde. Mercedes have brought luxury to a wider market.

The interior of both the short and long wheelbase models still give the Mercedes a spacious feel, the long wheelbase model has a wider hip to hip distance between front and rear passengers than the E-Class and front to back, more room than the S-Class.

The safety features are what you would expect from modern Mercedes but its little features such as heated windscreen washer nozzles, first-aid kit and warning triangle that just gives the A-Class that little edge.

A really natty feature for families with babies, the front passenger seat has a sensor that deactivates the passenger air bag if a rear facing child seat is fitted and a warning light comes up on the dashboard to tell the driver that the airbag is switched off.

Climate control that is controlled by a humidity sensor is also a new feature, standard on all models except the Classic where it is an optional extra, making travelling more comfortable.

Although the A-Class isn’t classed as an MPV you can fold down or remove the rear seats to give various combinations of seating and carrying space.

Model Options
Classic, Classic SE, both have a metallic interior finish, The Elegance, is trimmed in high quality wood veneer and Avantgarde models in high quality aluminium. You have the option of a short or long wheelbase to suit your requirements.
